By statute\, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is required to periodically update the CES for all energy needs in the state\, including\, but not limited to\, electricity\, heating\, cooling\, and transportation. The 2018 CES recommends policies that support the state’s broader environmental policies to meet clean air\, clean water\, land conservation and development\, and waste reduction goals\, including reducing GHG emissions 10 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 and 80 percent below 2001 levels by 2050. More specifically the finalized 2018 CES recommends eight key strategies to guide administrative and legislative action over the next several years.
