Help Shape CT’s Private & Public Fleet Rebates for Light Duty Vehicles!
CT’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) wants to hear from public and private fleet managers about how best to structure a rebate program for private and public fleets.
The program, an expansion of CHEAPR, the Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate, will offer companies, municipalities, tribal entities, and nonprofits up to
- $2250 for the purchase or lease of a battery electric vehicle light-duty vehicle (for example, Chevy Bolt, Mustang Mach-E, or F150 Lightning), or
- $750 per plug-in hybrid electric light-duty vehicle (such as the Ford Escape PHEV or Toyota Rav 4 Prime).
A full list of eligible vehicles is on the CHEAPR website. Eligible vehicles must have an MSRP of less than $50,000 for the base model. See DEEP slides for fuller detail.
Fleets are eligible for rebates for up to 10 vehicles per year, with a cap of 20 total rebates per entity.
The program will begin in 2024 with a pre-enrollment period, with funds being distributed later in the year. Rebates will not be available for vehicles purchased before the program is open.
DEEP is considering prioritizing fleets that are (1) housed or operate in Environmental Justice Communities or Distressed Municipalities, (2) have older vehicles, and (3) with high usage. Weigh in about those priorities and make suggestions about others here.
See the slides from DEEP’s presentation on a 9/27/23 Clean Cities web meeting and watch the recording below.
And stay tuned for a similar rebate program for medium and heavy duty vehicles and electric school buses. Both are expected in 2024.
