What is the CarFree Challenge?

The CarFree Challenge is goNewHavengo‘s annual month-long competition, where participants are rewarded for every sustainable trip they take during September, including telecommuting, walking, biking, car/vanpooling, and taking the bus or train (trips taken solely for exercise do not count).  We use CTrides Commuter Rewards (NuRide) to track trips take, carbon dioxide emissions avoided, vehicle miles avoided, calories burned, and transportation costs saved. In addition to the deals and discounts users are eligible for through NuRide, goNewHavengo rewards participants based on September results. We award prizes based on two main categories: individuals and organizations.

Individuals

The five individuals who take the most sustainable trips in September win prizes.

Organizations

Small organization (20 employees or fewer)

Medium-sized organization (21-200 employees)

Large organization (201 employees or more)

Prize categories (for small/medium/large):

  • Organization whose employees take the most sustainable trips in September

  • Organization with the highest percentage of its employees actively logging trips on NuRide

Employer Toolkit

What are the benefits and resources for employers? Use our startup employer toolkit to get ready for the CarFree Challenge, and spread the word!

The toolkit includes social media posts, e-mail templates, flyers, and ideas to spread the word around the workplace.
